it's likeputting your foot through the ball so naturally and sweetly
and watching as the ball flies towards that sacred unsave-able corner of the goal.
the goalkeeper throws himself, body at full stretch
desperately trying to claw the ball away
but nothing's going to stop it now,
it whizzes past him and
your hands jerk a little in anticipation,
waiting to burst forth in celebration as soon as the ball nestles into the back of the net.
but it wasnt to be (yet again)
as the ball smacks the frame of the goal
with a sickening thud and the same hands you were about to celebrate with
are now covering your gaping mouth,
wide open with disbelief.
so close. but just not good enough.
centimetres away from jubilation,
it slips into insignificance and unimportance
as the defender hacks the ball far far away
and it's all over.
but i will not rue that missed chance,
i will not let that missed opportunity linger.
It's a lesson learnt, an experience gained.
and the next time the ball lands at my feet,
it'll be swept home with conviction,
it'll be finished clinically.
Soon I'll explode into form, play like I know I can
and just... flow.
